District Summer Service Social 2008 Service Projects
Kiwanis District Convention
Thursday, August 14th, 2008 thru Saturday, August 16th, 2008 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Anaheim Marriot Description: To hold the event in Anaheim would be meaningless if we did not dedicate a lot of time in assisting at the Kiwanis District Convention, being held on the same dates. For Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Circle K members would help with supply sales as well as assisting in any clean up or volunteering necessary. Attending KDCON is mandatory for this event as it serves as the check-in location for attendees.
Service Project: Paint out! Pick up!
Thursday, 8/14/2008 Boysen Park – 951 S State College Blvd, Anaheim, CA, 92806 12:00pm – 5:00pm What they are about: The City of Anaheim’s Community Preservation has a proactive graffiti removal program that works 7 days a week and maintains effective working relationships with various organizations to educate and assist with helping keep Anaheim Graffiti Free. What we will be doing: We will be working with the City of Anaheim’s Graffiti Removal Program to beautify a local urban park by painting over graffiti and cleaning up a litter there may be.
Service Project: Rebuilding Education!
Friday, 8/15/2008 Happy Day Pre-school, Anaheim, CA, 92801 12:00pm – 5:00 pm What they are about: Founded in 1993 with 15 college students working with 15 preschoolers, Jumpstart is now a national leader in early childhood education, engaging 3,500 college students in service to more than 13,000 children in 20 states and nearly 70 communities across the country. What we will be doing: We will be working with both Jumpstart and residents in the Anaheim community to revitalize a local preschool by assisting with some much needed painting, rebuilding their library, and manning booths on ways to help improve literacy for people of all ages.
Service Project: Brailing for the blind!
Saturday, 8/16/2008 Marriott Hotel – Anaheim, CA 12:00pm – 5:00 pm What they are about: The Mission of Blind Children's Learning Center is to provide early intervention, education, and services for blind, visually impaired and deaf/blind infants and youth and their families to allow access to education in preparation to lead independent lives What we will be doing: We will be “Brailing” Chutes and Ladder games which will be donated to the Blind Children’s Learning Center. These games will be used by the children there to develop their sense of touch. |
